The practice of forgiveness is our most important contribution to the healing of the world.

If you’ve read some of my other writings or heard me speak at an event, you hopefully understand the impact of the lack of forgiveness in your life; i.e. physical pain, illness, and emotional issues. But, have you considered the impact on the world from our states of unforgiveness?
We are beings comprised of energy (Read more here). And, as we are all connected, the incredible importance of forgiveness becomes quite apparent.
With millions of humans walking around in energetic states of unforgiveness and anger, it is no wonder much of the world is experiencing chaos, hatred, and war.
Impact of Forgiveness
Now, I don’t want you to beat yourself up for this, okay? Even if you are not filled with an overall feeling of dislike or anger for the people around you, if you ARE carrying with you unforgiveness for yourself and a multitude of other people, you are emitting that energy to the world around you. Therefore, when so many of us are embodying and then SHARING that unhealthy energy, it is more difficult for the love and light to break through.
Is it any wonder many spiritual teachers warn us to guard our thoughts and emotions and practice forgiveness? The concept of loving our neighbor as ourselves becomes much more understandable because the consequences of not doing so are SO impactful on our ability to peacefully exist and co-exist.
Forgiveness is an act of love on behalf of the world because we all are energetically connected.
Can you imagine the difference we could make in the world if we all would dedicate 5 minutes each day to practice and focus on forgiveness, which is intrinsically linked to compassion and love?! I invite you to reflect upon that mentally or by writing in a journal. Contemplate what energy you are contributing to the world!
Have I Given Forgiveness Yet?
And so, you might be asking, “How do I know if I have truly forgiven someone?” Well, if any of the old stories or memories are still held inside you energetically, that is a great indicator you have more work to do. I invite you to remember a past incident that caused you harm or trauma, and if possible, talk about it with someone. You can also write about it in a journal. If any emotional reaction or physical sensation arises within your body, you can assume the story still has an energetic charge to it. Hence, you will want to continue utilizing the various forgiveness tools I have already written about in previous blog posts. And, watch for some EXCITING news in the next week!
Today’s Exercise
Here’s a really simple one for today:
- Find a quiet space to do this visualization.
- Take a deep breath and exhale slowly.
- Imagine sitting in your favorite spot in nature.
- Notice a beautiful white light approaching you. As it gets closer, you realize it is big enough to surround you. It eventually engulfs you with love.
- Feel the love and compassion of this light and rest in it. Continue to breath normally.
- When ready, say, “I forgive myself and others now for not knowing any better and for the harm we have caused. I no longer wish to hold onto the past. I release this anger and unforgiveness to the light. I give thanks for all my blessings, now.”
- Sit and relax and feel the love and forgiveness spreading throughout your body as you are cleansed.
- When ready, take one more deep breath and exhale slowly. Then, open your eyes.
